LAKAY Definition

 

LAKAY (pronunciation “LA- KAI”)is an honorific or a title that conveys esteem or respect when addressing a man who is older, has a higher rank at work or social standing, in a less formal setting. It is typically addressed with the person’s name following the title.

 

The term LAKAY has a literal meaning of “old man” and is typically used and identified to address men in the Northern Regions of the Philippines specifically by the people of the Ilocos Region (Ilocanos) and the Cordillera Administrative Region (Igorots).

 

The term LAKAY is also used to address a fellow male member, older or at the same age, to indicate closeness, friendship or camaraderie.

The City of Baguio, geographically located within Benguet, is a highly urbanized City in the Cordillera Administrative Region in Northern Luzon of the Philippines. The city is a well- known training grounds for athletes due to its unique climate, university scholarship opportunities, and the Igorot’s natural strong physique. The city has produced exceptional Judo athletes or Judokas, who have later progressed to become Philippine National Judo Team members, International Judo players, or coaches in their own respective club.

  • Formally opened Judo Training to the public in July 2017 at Centenary Park Community Centre.

  • Lakay Judo Club is a local community judo club in the City of Belmont. It operates through the support of volunteer coaches, parents assistance and other groups.

  • Prior to formal establishment, the club first started as a "Family-Backyard Judo club" at the Cloverdale residence of Head coach Lito Uyami.

  • The club is a KIDSPORT approved club where kids from eligible families with concession/healthcare card  can apply for $150 funding through their local councils to be used to pay towards club fees.
